Winter 2015/16, Spread the News
Students: Ann Christin Sievers, Benjamin Blazy, Claudia Schramke, Daria Rüttimann, Frederic Jorcke, Gurli Bachmann, Irene Fernandez, Jill Senft, Maria Parakenings, Melanie Freiberger, Merit Neuhaus, Niels Rost, Sarah Schürmann, Valerie Groth, Sarah Rickenbach, Ella Antila
For this project, the students created newspapers with the goal of developing a “pilot issue” by the end of the 2015/16 winter semester. These newspapers were not supposed to echo the kind of publication that one would get in the mailbox each morning. Instead, the students focused on addressing the crisis facing the daily newspaper industry, which is suffering from waning advertising interest. That being said, there are a wealth of journalistic formats that continue to thrive, including podcasts such as “This American Life,” which blurs the line between print and audio formats, or the online newspaper The Huffington Post, which has been acquired by AOL. The students also explored interesting journalistic projects beyond the digital sphere.
