behindert?!

Supervisors: Alex Jordan, Wim Westerveld

“behindert?!” was a multimedia campaign that aimed to raise the general public’s awareness of the importance of reserving parking spaces for the disabled. In order to take part in everyday life, the disabled rely to a greater extent on their cars than individuals without disabilities do. The campaign title has a dual meaning; it directly addresses the disabled and simultaneously asks them whether they have been hindered from parking in a designated handicapped parking space by an illegally parked non-disabled driver’s car. Campaign posters were placed on the windshields of non-disabled driver’s cars that were illegally parked in handicapped parking spaces (thereby addressing an issue that plagues all cities, not only Berlin). The idea was for the poster to catch the driver’s eye as well as the attention of passers-by, visually stigmatizing the illegally parked car. In addition to the poster, the campaign also consisted of a sticker, a DVD of a campaign film, and a CD of a PSA and two songs addressing this issue.
