Wim Westerveld

For this project, Yulia Popova interviewed female type designers and other women working in the field of type design. She collected their work, edited it, and published it in a book that surveys the landscape of women in this field, who should serve to create a new standard; type design has been strongly dominated by men over the past few centuries and remains fairly conservative. Women are still under-represented amongst typographers. While researching gender issues in the field of typography, Yulia discovered that there are many more female role models to be found here than is generally believed to be the case. It’s time for a change. The first dummies of the book are ready, and Yulia Popova is currently seeking a publisher.
