Visual Identity for NWO
The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) funds top researchers and steers the course of scientific developments in the Netherlands by supporting research programs and managing the national knowledge infrastructure. When designing the house style, I opted for a typographical solution. All 15 research institutes received their own logo based on the same principle: Gill Sans Capitals combined with a lowercase italic character that I designed. Since I applied this easily recognizable iconic principle, I have been able to introduce more variety with the other visual parameters, such as the colors. Each institute receives its own color scheme and, if desired, its own individual layout concept. The institutes operate independently and their relationship to the parent organization does not necessarily have to be emphasized in their visual identities.
